A considered guide to diamonds, craftsmanship, sizing and care.

A useful choice starts with context, not a specification sheet. These four questions help turn a broad search into a clear brief.
Think about hands-on work, exercise, gloves and how often the ring will be worn. These details influence profile and protection.
Notice whether you prefer clean geometry, soft curves, elongated proportions or a compact silhouette before comparing specifications.
Decide whether movement, face-up size, colour or clarity matters most to you. A balanced choice does not need every grade to be maximised.
Set the full-piece budget first. It keeps the setting, metal and diamond working together instead of letting one specification consume every decision.
A calm order for deciding
The 4Cs
Cut, clarity, colour and carat describe different qualities. Certification provides independently assessed information; your preferred balance is personal.
Cut describes proportions, symmetry and polish, and strongly influences how a diamond handles light.
Use it well: Start here when sparkle and movement matter most. A well-cut stone can appear lively across changing light.
Clarity grades describe inclusions and surface characteristics observed under standard grading conditions.
Use it well: Compare what is visible without magnification, not only the grade printed on a certificate.
Colour grades describe how colourless a diamond appears within the grading scale shown on its certificate.
Use it well: Judge colour with the chosen metal in mind: contrast can change how warmth is perceived.
Carat measures weight. Visible size also depends on shape, proportions and how the diamond is set.
Use it well: Compare face-up dimensions as well as weight when visible presence is the priority.
International ring sizing
UK sizes use letters, US sizes use numbers and many European sizes follow inner circumference. Use conversions as a starting point—not a substitute for measuring the intended finger.
Ask about sizing| US | UK | EU | Inside diameter | Circumference |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 4 | H½ | 47 | 14.9 mm | 46.8 mm |
| 5 | J½ | 49 | 15.7 mm | 49.3 mm |
| 6 | L½ | 52 | 16.5 mm | 51.9 mm |
| 7 | N½ | 54 | 17.3 mm | 54.4 mm |
| 8 | P½ | 57 | 18.1 mm | 57.0 mm |
| 9 | R½ | 59 | 18.9 mm | 59.5 mm |
| 10 | T½ | 62 | 19.8 mm | 62.1 mm |
Conversions are approximate and can vary slightly by chart or manufacturer. Wider bands can feel tighter than narrow bands.
Measure its inside diameter straight across the centre. Use a ring that already fits the intended finger.
Measure near the end of the day, when hands are comfortable and not unusually cold or swollen. Repeat the measurement.
A wider band generally needs more room. If measurements disagree or sit between sizes, ask before placing the order.
Practical guidance
Use these guides before choosing, or return to them whenever you need care and service information.
Measure the intended finger rather than relying on a ring worn elsewhere. Temperature, time of day and band width can affect fit, so compare more than one measurement before ordering.
Ask about sizingRemove fine jewellery before heavy impact, household chemicals or abrasive work. Store pieces separately, clean gently, and inspect claws and settings periodically.
Keep order details, certificates and service records together. Product-specific warranty and aftercare terms should be reviewed before purchase because coverage can vary by piece and circumstance.
Ready-to-ship pieces already exist in a stated size or specification. Made-to-order pieces require production. Always use the estimate shown for the chosen product and destination at the time of purchase.
Questions and answers
Straightforward answers to common questions before choosing a ring.
Yes. Lab-grown diamonds have the same chemical, physical and optical properties as mined diamonds. Their origin is different, and that origin should be disclosed clearly.
Begin with the outline you enjoy seeing, then compare how it looks on the hand. Shape affects visual character and face-up proportions, but there is no universally correct choice.
Consider profile height, exposed edges, claw placement and your routine. A lower or more protected setting may suit hands-on work, while other designs prioritise light and presence.
Compare colour, maintenance, weight, skin sensitivity and the options offered for the design. The same diamond can feel warmer or cooler beside different metals.
Do not guess from a single reading. Measure again at a different time of day and consider band width. Contact the team with the measurements and chosen design before ordering.
Not necessarily. The grades describe separate qualities, while appearance depends on their combination, the stone's proportions, its shape, the setting and your own priorities.
Production depends on the selected design and specification. Use the live estimate shown for that product and destination rather than a general guide.
A ready-to-ship piece already exists in the displayed specification and is subject to stock. A made-to-order piece is produced after the order using the selected options.
